The Beau Hunks Play the Original Little Rascals Music
Composed by Leroy Shield
“On to the Show!”: The Beau Hunks Play More Little Rascals Music
Composed by Leroy Shield

Each of these volumes contains 50 tracks of superbly composed, played and recorded music originally written more than half a century ago to serve as soundtracks for the short “two-reeler” comedies of Hal Roach, which featured not just the Little Rascals but Laurel and Hardy, The Boy Friends, Charley Chase, and others.  The Beau Hunks are a Dutch enemble dedicated to preserving neglected classics of a bygone era, and they do a yeoman's job on these two discs.  Fully annotated and with a nice brief overview of Shields’s career and the evolution of his film music written by the heroic transcriber of his scores, Piet Schreuders, accompanied by a modest selection of film stills and even a portrait (albeit a tiny one) of Shields done by none other than R. Crumb himself, these discs are simply irresistible.
