Gladstone Walt Disney Comics Albums

The work of Carl Barks is among the finest produced thus far in the history of Comics.  These Gladstone albums are, generally speaking, the finest available versions of his work.  While the quality of the coloring and its reproduction starts out a bit rough during the first year or so, it really picks up and then soars to greatness under the watchful eye of Art Director Gary Leach, and-- most especially-- the careful craft of colorists Sue Daigle and Summer Hamilton.  Most of these albums are now out of print, and many are difficult to come by.

Sadly, we're just about SOLD OUT of all the original Gladstone Comics Albums featuring the wonderful work of Carl Barks.  However, we are very pleased that Gemstone has issued two new, great, high quality volumes, produced by the same great team that worked on the Gladstone Albums, that are ENTIRELY CARL BARKS!

Here they are:

Carl Barks 1Carl Barks' Greatest DuckTales Stories, Volume 1
by Carl Barks
Hallelujah!  At last, Gemstone delivers on their promises with this nicely done 144 page comic book size volume printed in vibrant flat colors on bright flat white paper, very much along the lines of the high quality work of the Carl Barks Library volumes produced in the 1990s by Gladstone, only this time in the comic book rather than album
format.  The six -- count 'em! -- unexpurgated Barks classics presented here are: Back To The Klondike (Uncle Scrooge #2; technically Four Color 456), Land Beneath the Ground (US #13), Micro-Ducks from Outer Space (US #65), Lemming With the Locket (US #9), Lost Crown of Genghis Khan! (US #14), and Hound of the Whiskervilles (US #29).  What?!  You say you aren't hep to Carl Barks, possibly the greatest storyteller in the history of comics?  Well then, this is the place to start!

 Carl Barks Duck Tales 2

The Carl Barks Library

Walt Disney's Comics and Stories in Color

Same format as above.  Each volume is 56 pages and reprints five Barks ten-pagers from WDC&S along with several pages of editorial commentary and supplementary art. Month after month, year after year, Barks turned out these finely crafted gems.  These works embody the essence of Comics in its purest form.  The stories are presented in chronolgical order.  There are 51 total volumes in this series.  Each volume comes shrink-wrapped with a numbered trading card.  Starting with, I think, the ninth volume, the number of the card corresponded with the number of the volume; but with the first eight volumes, the cards were distributed randomly; so if you're intent on assembling a complete set of cards, the first eight are the hardest; also volume 51 has two cards, making for 52 altogether. Volumes #1 - #40 retail for $8.95 each; volumes 41 - 51 retail for $9.95 each.
