Pioneers' Clothing

I learned that to make cloth from wool, first you cut the wool off the sheep. Then you wash the wool so it's easier to work with. Then you brush the wool with pieces of wood with needles on them. Then you use the spinning weel to turn it into yarn. Then you put it on a reel. Then you change the color by dipping it in dye. Then you put it in a loom. Then you measure the people to get their sizes. Taylor

This  helped to fluff the wool. Then the woman began twisting the spinning wheel to hold the wool into yarn and she would use the spinning wheel to hold the yarn.Next she would put long wool yarn on the reel. Then to change the color of the yarn she had to dye it.She made dyes from nuts, bark, roots, trees and bugs. Then she hung the yarn in the sunshine to dry. MITCHELL

The Ohio Indian Tribes

Many years ago after the mound builders disappeared, the Native Americans known as the Fort Ancient Indians made homes in southern Ohio around 1100 A.D. Ohio was a good place for Indians to live. It was a good hunting ground. There were many wild animals. There were many rivers for traveling. Indians found flint and stone for their tools and weapons. The Wyandots had been pushed out of Canada. The Miamis came from near Michigan. Sometimes white children were captured and the white captives sometimes learned to love the new family. They didn't always want to go back to their own homes. This is what I learned.
