What Reiki Is
Reiki (pronounced Ray-Kee) is the Japanese word for the life force
energy that flows throughout the entire Universe. It is a healing system that was created by Mikao Usui. Rei means spiritual
wisdom. Ki means life force. Reiki encourages the body's natural ability to heal itself, balances the energy centers in the
energy field, promotes relaxation, and gently encourages emotional healing and spiritual development.
We all have the innate ability to heal ourselves and others, and Reiki
awakens this ability. It also helps you to discover your natural ability to clear away negative energies and to invite positive
forces into your life. This healing system can open you to the beauty of life and the love of the Universe. It creates a harmonious
connection and a vibrational flow. When this energy is channeled in a directed and focused way, it is a source of positive
transformation. Reiki can be used to heal people, animals, and all of Nature. It can also be used to clear and bless food,
buildings, past lives, and more.
The Reiki practitioner may place her hands on the client's body in
a non-threatening way, or she may hold her hands a few inches away. Healing energy is channeled from the Universe through
the practitioner and into the client. The practitioner does not use her own energy, otherwise it would be depleted. The Reiki
practitioner is the conduit for the healing energy.
In the Reiki system there are three degrees or levels of practice.
The initiation into each degree requires what is called an attunement. An attunement can be received only from a third degree
Reiki Master. Some Reiki teachers require their students to be initiated into a fourth degree before becoming a Reiki Master.
It depends on who you study with.
Everyone has natural healing powers that they can tap into. The Reiki
attunement balances and increases this flow of power. The process of receiving an attunement is a brief but sacred ceremony.
Once you have received an attunement, you will always have the ability to perform Reiki healing.
The Practice of Reiki Healing
Reiki can be done anywhere at any time. Professional Reiki practitioners
use a massage table or a comfortable mat for clients to lie on during a session. If you do not have a table or mat, a client
can sit on a comfortable chair. Comfortable clothing should be worn during a Reiki treatment session.
Unless you are concentrating on specific area, a full Reiki treatment
should begin with the head. Place your hands gently on the client and relax. During a session, you may speak with the client
or you may remain quiet. The preference is up to you and the client. You may also play some soft music. A session can be done
for a half-hour or an hour. If the person becomes emotional during the session, be supportive in their process. End your session
by placing your hands firmly on the client's feet and grounding the person.
Many blessings, and may peace prevail on Earth!
