What a month it's been in the April of the 06. It's actually become a tradition of sorts, every year we get three major
events in April:
Taxes,
Coachella, and
Musexpo. As
President & CEO of
Combat Rock Promotion, I was a good boy and took care
of
Uncle Sam....Now, it's time to ROCK! It's usually a toss up every year at Coachella for what I like to
do more: watch bands or socialize. But this year I think the socializing may take a back seat. Have you seen the line up?!
The Yeah Yeah Yeahs,
Madonna (!?!),
Depeche Mode,
Franz Ferdinand,
Sigur Ros,
Atmosphere,
Common,
My Morning Jacket,
Ladytron,
Clap Your Hands Say Yeah,
Bloc Party,
Matisyahu,
the Duke Spirit,
Wolfmother, the list goes on and on. And
Musexpo will showcase the best talent from around
the world with panels featuring some of the most high-powered executives in the Biz. I'm excited to meet
Factory Records
founder
Tony Wilson. I'm going to ask him if he was happy with the way he was portrayed in the flick
"24 Hour Party People". My favorite story from last year's Musexpo was chatting with
Virgin
Records President
Jason Flom as we waited for taxis outside the hotel. The
Featermerchants
just finished up an amazing run at college radio where they cracked the
CMJ Top 100 and now are off to the
Triple-A/Non-Comm panel.
Revolver Modele is still kicking it out there and just finished
a midwest tour where they did some interviews. Coming to college radio, alternative, and commercial radio morning shows
on the East Coast this week is the hilarious record from
Bob Ricci. He writes songs that will have you rolling on the floor. Good, fun stuff. Check it out! In the live arena this month
saw a killer show with
Bril,
People in Planes and
Blue October. All
three bands smoked. Then Bril rocked it again on the
Jimmy Kimmel show a week later. It was a fun night,
except they only serve beer & wine in the
Green Room now. When I asked the bartender, all
he could explain was "We had an incident..." Hmmm... Cool new music I like:
Hellacopters,
Placebo,
Gnarls
Barkley,
Ima Robot,
Snow Patrol.
