WebLynx FAQ
The following "Frequently Asked Questions" are provided to better assist
those using WebLynx by providing answers to questions as quickly as possible.
If the following don't provide the help needed, send an e-mail
using the link at the bottom of the page. I can't promise same day
service, but I'll attempt to answer any and all questions.
| Q |
When I attempt to unzip the WebLynx.ZIP file, I get the error "Corrupted
Zip File, use PKZipFix" or something to that effect? |
| A |
The download did not complete correctly and you have a truncated file.
I post the current size of the download on the WebLynx DownLoad page,
compare that with the file you have. If this appears to be the problem,
attempt to redownload the file. |

| Q |
When I double-click on a link record, I get an error - What could be
wrong? |
| A |
The following are an explanation of some of the more common errors related
to applications and link records:
-
Error Starting Application - The "Executable Path" field is not correctly
set. Go to the "File", "Properties", "Applications" window. Select
the correct "Application Name" and use the "Browse" and "Test" buttons to
verify or correct this field entry.
-
Application Not Responding (but you know the application is currently
running).
-
If using the "Exec" type (listed in each link record) then the problem is
in the "Window Name" field of the "Properties","Applications" window.
-
If using the "DDE" type, then the problem is in the DDE Set Command in the
"Properties","Applications" window.
-
Error - Application <name> Not Setup - That <name> could
not be found in the configuration file - Add the application to the configuration
or change the link record to point to another application name.
-
Using "Exec" type commands, the application is brought to the forefront,
but the data file is not loaded - The sendkey commands are not
correct in the "Properties", "Applications", "Load Command" field. Use
the instructions in the help file "Getting Started" topic, "Setup of Application
Profiles" section for verifying and correcting this entry.

| Q |
Explain the "Get Link" button on the Add/Edit window |
| A |
The "Get Link" button is a bit confusing as it works differently depending
upon the "Type" field setting and the "App.Name" currently selected. It's
purpose was to make grabbing information for new links easier, but it's very
dependent upon how well the application you're using can respond to a query.
DDE - Many applications, especially Web browsers, can respond to a
DDE query regarding the current document and answer with both the title and
location of the document, which if correctly configured WebLynx puts into
the "Link Name" & "Link Address" fields. To do this, the DDE Get
Command field ("Properties","DDE") must be setup and operating correctly
for that application (and this can be tricky!).
Exec - When the Exec type of command function is selected, I can get
no response from the application and therefore am forced to simply open a
browse box and allow you to manually point & click your way to selecting
the file's name and location. The title (Link Name) entry will
have to be manually keyed in. |
