History Hi! We are Jim and Christy Nilo. Located in Caroline County, Virginia, which is half way between Richmond and Fredricksburg. These pages are about our Great Danes, past and present, George, Martha and Woodford plus include important educational information about the breed. Read on... Christy first fell in love with Great Danes in the late 1980’s while working for a veterinarian in Northern Virginia. There were several that frequently visited the hospital, but one special guy named Sasquatch stole her heart and she knew one day she would have one herself. Christy has over nine years experience working in veterinary hospitals. As our mix breed dog began to show her age and her health steadily worsened, Jim began to accompany Christy to dog shows because he knew another dog was in our future. It only took one show for Jim to become just as hooked on Danes as Christy. We found a wonderful breeder who has continued to work as a mentor. Thanksgiving Weekend 2000, we brought home our first Dane companion: Nuttree’s Brisbane better known as George. George and Christy started going to handling classes and began hitting the show ring in May of 2001. George took a break from the show ring in the summer of 2003 to do a little more maturing. He resumed showing in 2004 and quickly won his Championship, finishing with a Five Point Major win at a Great Dane Specialty show! Sadly, George crossed the Rainbow Bridge in 2007. In August of 2003 we welcomed Martha into our home. Martha is our second Dane from the Nuttree line. She made her show debut in January of 2004. Check out Martha's page. In early 2005 we were honored to be accepted as members in the Great Dane Club of Metropolitan Washington. We are considering producing puppies. We do not take this a responsibility lightly and are not willing to rush. These puppies are going to be members of our family and possibly yours. We feel it is very important to try to better the breed through responsible breeding. We have a new puppy in the house. Woodford certainly has the power to charm everyone he meets. Check back often to see new pictures of Woodford as he begins to explore the world! Please come back often as we will always be adding to our site. Check out our links and health pages. We have included our mentors at Nuttree Great Danes and Janus Great Danes, as well as other Great Dane links we hope you will find useful. Regards, Jim, Christy, Martha, Woodford, Scooter, and Kritter |
