Small-Footed Myotis

Myotis ciliolabrum

Description: Body about 2 3/4" to 3 1/4" long, wingspan approximately 10". Tan or brown glossy fur, pale below. Wings dark brown, black mask and ears.

Range: Most of western North America, from southwestern Canada down into Mexico, populations in parts of eastern and central U.S.

Habitat: Not much information available, but has been spotted under rock slabs and in crevices, mine tunnels, under loose tree bark, in buildings.

Diet: Small insects such as moths, flies, beetles.

Behavior: Hibernates in caves, in small groups. Forms small nursery colonies of up to about 20 bats. Bears a single young each year.
