Description: Body length of 3 7/8 to 4 5/8", wingspan of 14". Fur is dark gray or brown above and below, fur nearly white at base. Ears are joined at base. Has a wrinkly upper lip. About half of the tail extends past edge of tail membrane. |
Range: Found in southern California, southern Arizona and New Mexico, down into Mexico. |
Habitat: Lives in deserts and sage scrub, roosts in rocky crevices. |
Diet: Moths, ants, wasps, leafhoppers, other insects. |
Behavior: Roosts by day in small colonies of less than about 100 bats. Bears a single pup each year, in the early summer. |
