Fringed Myotis

Myotis thysanodes

Description: Body length of 3 1/8" to 3 3/4", wingspan about 12". Reddish brown or brown fur above, paler below. Medium length dark brown or black ears. Fringe of hair covering the membrane between the legs and tail.

Range: Found in much of California, up to British Columbia. Scattered across several southwestern states and into Mexico.

Habitat: Lives in oak and juniper forests, desert scrub. Roosts in caves, abandoned mines, or buildings.

Diet: Mostly moths, crickets, beetles, and spiders.

Behavior: Roosts in colonies, nursery colonies number up to several hundred individuals. Bears a single young each year.
