APPLICATION FOR CHESS CLUB INSTRUCTION 2009-2010

The Charlotte-Mecklenburg Scholastics Chess Association (CMSCA) is a non-profit organization dedicated to the promotion of scholastic chess in Charlotte area schools.  A chess teacher will be available on an equitable, rotating basis to visit all chess clubs in Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools.  The purpose of these visits will be to provide chess instruction to club members and to share ideas with club sponsors on how to organize a successful chess club.  We will support and enhance your existing club; however, we are unable to be chess club sponsors.

To have a CMSCA teacher visit your school’s chess club, please fill out this application.  The greater flexibility you can provide in your club meeting dates and times significantly increases the opportunity for more frequent visits by the CMSCA instructor.  The information requested will also assist our organization in providing support to your club.

Tournament information

One of the easiest and best way s for children to really enjoy chess is through playing opportunites with other children from all over the city, country or world.  CMSCA hosts at least one tournament thought the school year.  (See “Tournament Primer” in the School Info section of the website for information on tournament formats).  These events help to build vibrant clubs.  School clubs are encouraged to participate in these events.  Visit the website often to view tournament schedules.  Please make this information available to your chess club students.
