Some of the extended Alsup family members are currently working on plans for a
Civil War Memorial in Douglas County, Mo. which will hopefully be in place and ready for dedication on Memorial Day, 2008.
This memorial will be in honor of the Civil War Veterans buried at Denlow Cemetery.
Please contact us if you are interested in donating to this wonderful project.
Anyone donating will receive a donation certificate suitable for framing.

At
Denlow
The unveiling
of the new Civil War Memorial
will take place
this Labor Day weekend
Sunday, August 31, 2008
at
Denlow Cemetery
at
2:00 pm.
Close to 30 Civil War Veterans are buried at
Denlow Cemetery.
We are excited about this and hope
to have great attendance. Several people are expected to travel from out of state,
so come join us and meet more of your kinfolks. We do hope to see you there!
I am a member of the DUVCW, “Daughters
of the Union Veterans of the Civil War” and I have contacted the local tent in Springfield,
Mo. to make them aware of this project.
UPDATE - MAY 26, 2008
I returned late yesterday evening from a visit to Denlow. Once again I felt so welcomed with the warm
hospitality that the people give each time I am there. I am already trying to scheme a plan in order to secure
an invitation to the Denlow School Reunion each year even after our Memorial project is completed. It is possible
that the delay of the memorial is a blessing after all. We have added one more name to our list of veterans and have
3 or 4 more to do research on. As mentioned previously, we do not want to leave anyone out. We also have discovered
that at least one of the veterans on our list was a medal of honor recipient and it is my hope that we can include a notation
of that on our marker. The cemetery board built a wonderful retaining wall and platform for the placement of our marker
and wanted to share it with all. Please view the photos below.

UPDATE - MAY, 2008
Civil War Memorial
Dedication
Unfortunately the unveiling of the new Civil War Memorial
Marker, at Denlow Cemetery which was set for Saturday,
May 24th, 2008 has been delayed. We are extemely disappointed and regret posting this news. As far
as we know at the present time, we hope to go forward with the dedication by Labor Day weekend of this year. Unforeseen
events have occurred which have caused the delay. Just one of the of the events I mention is the fact that
the cost of the project is not matching the amont we had believed it would cost. Because of that Rick Alsup has decided
to take bids on the engraving of the marker in hopes of being able to come closer to the amount we are holding at this time.
He considered condensing the wording of the draft in order to be able to bring the cost down however, to do so would have
eliminated so much of what needs to be said. As I said, we are extremely disappointed and I am certain everyone waiting
with anticipation is also. If there is anything good about this news, I guess it would be that it gives more
time for anyone who might be able to confirm and add a name to the list of Civil War Veterans. Please check back
regularly for updates.

UPDATE
School Reunion
&
Civil War Ground Breaking Ceremony
The annual Denlow School
Reunion was held on May 26, 2007 at the Denlow Church.
The
Bluegrass music entertainment was wonderful. The time spent with those during the potluck dinner was just as enjoyable.
Several of the extended Alsup
family members attended and are very grateful for the invitation.
A ground breaking ceremony at
the Denlow Cemetery
took place following the dinner. We appreciate all those who are involved
in whatever way with this memorial which will honor so many of our ancestors.
A Goal of the
figure needed for this project and more detailed information will be posted here as soon as I can acquire all the information.
Please check back regularly.
Anyone interested in donating
to the memorial fund may still do so by making payment to Douglas
County Memorial Fund and mailing it to Catherine Alsup Reilly at P.O. Box 1091, Fulton, Ky
42041.
