Captain America: Steve Rogers was rejected by the army, but chosen by Prof. Rinestien to be turned into a super-soldier. The experiment worked, but the Prof. was shot by a nazi spy. So Rogers went through months of training until he was ready. When he finally was, though, he sent Germany back a mile a minute.

Bucky: Cap's sidekick, Bucky Barnes, first found out Rogers was Cap when he was sneaking around Steve's bunk. Don't know how they let Bucky in the army in the first place, but hey, it's a comic book.... See, Bucky was the camp's mascot & (I didn't know army camps had mascots) Steve was stationed there as a private, go figure. When Bucky discovered Cap's identity Steve made him promise not to tell anyone. Then Bucky somehow talked Cap into letting him be his partner.

The Human Torch: The Torch is really an android, a synthetic human that was created by a scientist named Hortin. Hortin wanted to get fame and lots of money for his creation, but the Torch disagreed. After a while the Torch learned to control his flame & started leading a normal life, despite the fact everyone knew who he was. Besides fighting nazis and German soldiers, Torch joined the police force. That's where he met Betty Dean, a friend of Namor's, and fellow police officer. That's also where he had a very close call with Subby. Of course, I didn't say Subby won, he just flooded New York. :-) This rivalry would go on for, well, it still hasn't ended. But, they did have to put it aside when in the Invaders. Hey, that didn't mean they didn't have brawls from time to time. These two argued more than anyone else on the team.

Toro: Tomas Raymond was a mutant. He was a circus fire eater at a big top performance that the Torch just happened to be flying over. On one of his acts something went wrong and he was engulfed in flame. The Torch flew down and put out the fire on Toro, but to his and the boy's surprise, Toro wasn't burnt. Torch taught Toro how to control flame, how to fly, and all the tricks that come with the power. From then till the end of the war and even a little bit after, the Torch and Toro were partners.

Namor: Namor was the son Capt. L. McKenzie & Princess Fen, an Atlantian. He grew up hating humans and when I say hating I mean hating. The other Atlantians used this to their advantage, they sent Namor up to wreak havoc on New York. (Why does everyone attack New York? I don't get it) But, he ran into some trouble, the Human Torch. Thus begins the age old rivalry of fire and water. That things old as dirt. Anyway, they fought and fought and ..........(snore....) Okay, I'm boring you, huh? So, they trashed New York fighting and Namor scurried back into the ocean to beat the Torch up another day. Okay?
