POWER RESEARCH ON THE WEB: GENERAL EDITION (one-day, hands-on)
Instructor:
Constantine Kaniklidis

The explosive growth of the Internet is outstripping the ability of standard search technology to effectively find critical information in a timely and precise fashion. This presentation provides registrants with the survival skills to undertake sophisticated type of research on the Internet using the latest advances in search engine technology and to find the Internet's hidden information resources in what is known as the Invisible Web.

Participants first learn smart-searching, refining searches to yield finer, more constrained and relevant results using the best of current search engines. The presentation then covers vertical (drill-down) searches using content-rich search portals/databases, as well as cutting-edge metasearching (parallel search), and just-breaking contextual-search engines and expert-search (Ask the Experts) technology. Also covered are techniques for invisible web searching, offline search engines, and web libraries and gateways, among many techniques for information mining. Finally, the instructor, a member of IETF, presents the very frontier-edge of searching, based on proprietary research: the emerging NG (Next-Generation) search technology.
