To be awarded this rank a junior student must:

 

1.     Be Six years old with at least 16 weeks in Judo.

2.     Show good moral character.

3.     Know the following information and definitions.

a.      Who was the founder of Judo? Answer:  Dr. Jigoro Kano (Gee Go row, Kah no)

b.     What year was Judo founded? Answer: 1882

c.     What is the name of the school that is the worldwide center or Judo? Answer: The Kodokan. (Co dough kahn)

d.     In what country is this school? Answer: Japan

e.      What is Shisei? (She say) Answer: Posture in general.

f.       What is Shintai? (Shin Tie) Answer: Body movement.

g.     What is TaiSabaki? (Tie sa baa key). Answer: Pivoting or turning the body.

h.     What is the meaning of Hajime? (Ha jih may) Answer: The referee’s command for begin.

i.        What is the meaning of Osaekomi? (O sigh co me) Answer: Referee’s call when a hold down has started.

j.        What is the meaning of Matte? (Ma tay) Answer: Referee’s command to stop.

k.     What is the meaning of Soremade? (Sore A ma day) Referee’s command that the contest time has ended.
