Connecticut Judo Inc. Junior Green Belt Test


To be awarded this rank a junior student must:

1.     Be at least 8 years old with 6 months as orange.

2.     Must show good moral character.

3.     Must have passed the requirements for Gokyu and Yonkyu.

4.     Must know the following vocabulary.

a.      What does O Goshi mean? The big hip throw.

b.     What does O Soto Gari mean? The major outside reaping throw.

c.     What does Seoinage mean? The shoulder throw.

d.     What does Katame Waza mean? Matwork techniques.

e.      What does Kesa Gatame mean? The scarf hold.

f.       What does Yokoshiho Gatame mean? Side four-corner hold.

g.     Define Yonkyu (Yahn Kew). Forth class Judo rank (Green Belt)

h.     Define Nage Waza (Nah gay wah za). Throwing techniques.

i.        Define Kumi Kata (Coo me kah tah). Gripping your opponent.

j.        Define Kuzushi (Kah zoo she). Breaking your opponents balance.

k.     Define Tsukuri (Sue currie). Entering for your throw.

l.        Define Kake (Kah kay). Executing your throw.

m.   Define Osaekomi Waza (O sigh co me wah za). Holding techniques.

n.     What does Shido (She dough) mean? A one-point penalty. Four shidos will end the match.

o.     What does Hansokumake (Hahn so coo mah kay) mean? A 200-point penalty that ends the match.

5.     Must demonstrate the following:

a.      One Throwing technique from each previous rank.

b.     One holding technique from each previous rank.


c.     Ayumi Ashi

d.     Tsugi Ashi

e.      Forward rolls (Zempo Kaiten).

f.       180 degree Taisabaki

g.     Migi Shizentai

h.     Hidari Shizentai

i.        Migi Jigotai

j.        Hidari Jigotai

k.     Ukemi                                                 

l.        Uki Goshi

m.   Sasae Tsurikomi Ashi

n.     Hiza Guruma

o.     Tateshiho Gatame

p.     Kata Gatame
