Christine Jarc, MM, CLE, ICCE, CD (DONA, the founder and coordinator of Pacific Birth Support, is among the most respected
Birth Doulas in Northern California. Since 1996, she has enjoyed helping well over 250 families welcome their babies into
the world.
In addition to all of this, Christine functions as a preceptor for new Doulas who wish to apprentice with an experienced
Doula.
Christine is known for her cooperative relationships with
doctors & midwives, and has a reputation for being a team player, thereby creating a more relaxed and comfortable environment
for both parents and hospital staff in which everyone involved in the birth process feels welcomed and respected.
As a perinatal educator at San Francisco's largest maternity center, Christine's classes have been among the most popular
and first to fill up. Students speak of her as warm, immensely caring, and with a good sense of humor. Christine enjoys a
reputation of presenting realistic & current in information, and evidence -based practices. While other teachers may try
to avoid tough issues, Christine will speak honestly. She is the only Doula in The City who regularly teaches at local hospitals,
which gives both Christine & her students a huge advantage as to understanding the details of what to expect in the potential
variations of a hospital birth. Birth is unpredictable, but time spent in Christine's classes prepares future parents to make
informed choices. Expectant parents specifically request her classes, and on many occasions, she has arranged smaller classes
of 4 to 6 couples at her own comfortable facility outside the hospital location.
Christine and her Pacific Birth Support colleagues teach childbirth education, newborn parenting, breast-feeding preparation
and infant/child CPR in addition to providing inclusive Doula services and post-partum care.
Christine is the mother of two energetic and affectionate young men. When not "doula-ing" or teaching, she volunteers
for her sons' schools, her Episcopal Church and the Diocese of California as a lay minister. In her previous occupation,
she enjoyed a successful career as a lyric-coloratura soprano, performing and competing in the United States, Canada and Europe.
She still sings, teaches voice and coaches singers. Christine can actually help you learn all those funny labor breathing
patterns with a bit of authority!
When able to carve out personal
time, Christine enjoys writing poetry, technical birth-related articles and blogging. Her passions include the works of Mozart,
Eric Clapton, Jackson Browne, The Dead, Stephen Fry and Oscar Wilde. A girl needs some fun, after all.
