On these pages you may get the information concerning applications of ion beam treatment in the fabrication of high precision optical surfaces and coatings. This technology exists and develops over more than thirty years. It has great advantages in comparison with conventional technologies but unfortunately is not widely used yet in modern optical manufacturing. One of the reasons is that for successful development and application of ion - beam technologies optical engineers need to have a necessary minimum of knowledge and experience in some areas of science and engineering that they never used before. If you want to use this technology and equipment successfully, to find out the optimal way to obtain good results with minimum time and money expences, you should know at least the fundamentals of plasma physics, physics of interaction of accelerated atomic particles with solids, physics and engineering of ion and plasma sources.
I work in the optical industry for more than thirty ears, from which about 20 years have been devoted to the development and invention of industrial ion - beam technologies. Here I would like to share my experience and to help optical engineers to attain a minimum of knowledge base that, in my opinion, is absolutely necessary for successful work in this area. I hope this information will be interesting and useful both for beginners and experts.
Naturally, all the underwritten stuff is based on my personal experience and estimations. Many experts may have other opinions concerning those or some of other my conclusions. I appreciate all your remarks, guidelines and information.
If you have any questions please feel free to contact me. I will be glad to assist you in solving your problems.
I want specially to note that the given site is neither a scientific article, nor a technical report, and nor a text-book. The information presented here is widely accessible, known to me from books and journal articles, and is obtained in my own experiments. In general all the content of this page has been published in Russia and USA. You won't find here a subject of patenting or "know-how", materials from classified sources and unpublished information which is known to me from private sources. Therefore I did not place in the text the references on information sources.
