"Narratives"

Of the four sculptors included in this exhibit, Oakland ceramist Susannah Israel's work stands out for its unique form, muted colors, and bleak depiction of reality. Inspired by drawings in a children's book, Ballet Class depicts young rabbits learning a new pose. Although cute in concept, the sculptures of the teacher and pupils have a grim feeling similar to that of the claymation in The Nightmare before Christmas or even of the evil rabbit in Donnie Darko.
