Commercial Websites: Metro Travel
|
A locally-based travel company requested
this site, under strict guidelines to fit in with their printed
promotionals for a unified image. One of the largest challenges
on this site was balancing the wishes of the very particular
customer & their limited knowledge of the internet, with
advising them on what would and would not work best on their
website, and finally coming out with a website that satisfied
them. Another complication was that the customer refused to
upgrade their AOL web browser, adding another complication
in the website's development, in that the site needed to look
up to their standards on the usual web browsers such as Netscape
and Internet Explorer, but also older versions of AOL software.
After the site was sold by the Depot sales staff, I took over
communication with the customer, faxing design sketches to
the company, and creating the website from scratch. In this
design, I decided to keep the look simple and traditional,
using dark text on a light background to make for easier reading.
After the color choices, I decided to take the look of their
site one step further, creating the look of a travel bag or
planner to go with the vacation-themed context of the company.
Metro Travel has since redesigned their site using a templated
solution.
