This enormous project involved not just the Depot, but most of the news, advertising and photo staff at the News & Record. The objective was to create a website that supplemented the series of stories being created for the print side of the newspaper. This involved a reporter and the creative lead, who travelled to the North Carolina Outer Banks to interview people, shoot photos and videos, record sounds, all in real time, which needed to be handled as they were being uploaded.

My challenge was to coordinate all of the creative elements while the news staff worked to incorporate the stories being sent by FTP in text format by the reporter on her laptop.

I was involved with the design of the inside pages, but the introduction pages were all my designs, making a digital illustration for each day's site updates.
I used stock photographs, carefully chosen typefaces, scans from pages and slides of old engravings and maps, and photographs of a model hired for the project to act as Blackbeard the Pirate in the RealVideo movies on the site that accompanied each day's adventure on the wegbpage.
