Letter to Luke dated 20 March 2001

You are 10 weeks old today and a transvaginal ultrasound showed me yourself for the very first time.
The feeling of awe permeated the room as your mother, your grandmother and I saw your tiny form on the screen. It was as if DR. Wagner were brandishing a magic wand. Just knowing that I have succeeded in your creation is inspiring. As you probably know,
I get inspired from time to time.
I am sitting in training, learning about Windows 2000 server software, trying even now, the day we met, to reach out to you, to let you know from day one, you are loved.

I have a lot of challenges right now, such as upgrading my MCSE to Win2000, planting grass at the new home, completing the items on my never ending to-do list, figuring out how to pay for the new home, selling our first home at 107 Glenview, and putting up with my boss, Mike Barron. By the time you read this, I hopefully will have these problems long solved.

Right now, the family businesses are nearing a crossroads, your grandfather is feeling the effects of his years and decisions need to be made regarding the future of Gundlach machine and its product line. Your other family business, the Photography studio, established by your other grandfather in 1948 js run by your grandmother since his death in 1981. That studio brought your mom and I together, but I'm sure you're sick of that story. Your grandma Frillman is going to close it soon and that troubles me.

In the grand scheme is how now to best prepare for your arrival . I have built you a fine home that I hope you'll love. Wall St. and Axel foley are unaware that you are going to arrive. Besides your mom, Wally is my best buddy. I can yell at him, and he fears me, but he follows me and lives and breathes to love me. I will really miss him when he is gone. But I hope whatever pets you've had have brought you the same joy WS brought me.

In your life know that it is the little things that bring you happiness, like a dog lovingly you unconditionally or having dinner done and the vcr ready
to play your favorite movie or TV shows at the same time. Above all, there is God. As I grew, I thought Him everything from my mortal enemy, to old friend, to generous benefactor.
He has made every one of my dreams come true and has continued to answer every one of my prayers.
The most successful prayer so far, at least has been your creation and seeing you for the first time today.

I know I will make mistakes and I know you will too. But in the grand scheme know that you are loved.

Well, I should close for now.

All my love,
Your father
