Through the magic of the Internet I have been blessed with the E-reunion of Susan (Frillman) Burnett. She just got lucky and found me through this web site. Susan received this information from John and Janet (Finke) Hagan, a cousin of my Dad, Ralph Louis Frillman, jr. and her online. Special thanks to John, Janet, and Susan for ALL OF THIS information. I've taken time to add hyperlinks to photos that are not stored on this site due to space considerations. View all photos here

Notes for ANNA MARIA GERST FAULKE:
Anna was adopted by the Gerst family from an orphanage somewhere around Germantown, Illinois. She had a very unhappy childhood and would not speak of her background. She said that she thought she had either been adopted or placed in a foster home after spending time in a Catholic orphanage near Germantown, Illinois after her mother became an invalid. She thought her adopted name was Gaerst. She did say that she though her biological parents were born in Alsace or Lorraine in France.
Anna Maria had two children with her first husband, Henry or Heinrich Faulke (Falke). They were married on February 4, 1896 in Carlyle, Illinois. Henry died of tuberculosis.
John Hagan (Janet Finke's) husband searched census records for Illinois for 1880 trying to find an Anna Maria born in 1874 who would be a good prospect, but Anna Maria was a popular name and there were too may to give a conclusive lead. Unfortunately, he said, the 1890 census was destroyed and by 1900 Anna was married.
Anna had two children Margaret Ann and Isabelle Susan with her first husband Henry Faulke. After his death she married again to Louis Luke Frillman and had three more children Ralph Louis, Eugene Grover and Esther Ruth Frillman. Late in 1911 Louis abandoned the family. Anna then appears as divorced head of household keeping a boarding house in Benton, Illinois. The 1930 census lists the family living at 2931 Summit Avenue in East St. Louis, Illinois with Louis as head of household with no occupation. Grover is listed as a meter reader and Esther as a stenographer.
Anna became an invalid due to diabetes and stayed a short while at times with Grover and his family, but was primarily and later in life entirely cared for by Esther and Elmer Finke.
Anna died in a nursing home fire in 1957. I believe that the Finke family had planned on taking her back home with them the next weekend. This is newspaper article.

iii. ESTHER RUTH FRILLMAN, b. June 22, 1911; m. ELMER FINKE.
