ORGAN WORK GETS ‘TECHNICAL’
There were no “lazy days of summer” for the Chevalier
Theatre Organ Society’s volunteers this year. Society members spent the latter
part of July and early August removing virtually all the components of the
Chevalier Mighty Wurlitzer from the two primary storage rooms, sorting them out
in the theatre’s dressing rooms, and beginning to decipher how they were
assembled in their former installations, and how they will be arranged in the
chamber space at Chevalier.
On August 4, Allen Miller, the chair of the American
Theatre Organ Society’s Technical Committee, traveled from Connecticut to
Medford to assess the work done to date. Miller’s evaluation is part of the
procedure ATOS uses to consider grant applications to the ATOS Endowment Fund, which
CTOS has submitted.
Miller spent three hours at Chevalier, providing
valuable feedback, insight and sharing best practices for theatre organ
restoration and installation.
He also will submit a written report to CTOS. You can view photos of Miller’s visit and of
the Chevalier organ being reassembled at the following two links:

A DELIGHTFUL TRIP TO MAINE
What’s better than a trip to Old
Orchard Beach, Maine, on a lovely summer Sunday afternoon? Including a stop at
Loranger School to hear the Mighty Wurlitzer theatre pipe organ restored by the
Pine Tree Chapter of ATOS. That’s what six CTOS members did on July 12 when
they attended the Pine Tree’s monthly chapter meeting, toured the organ
chambers and even played a few tunes on the Wurlitzer. CTOS extends its thanks
to president Dwight Burkard and the rest of the Pine Tree Chapter for having us
as their guests.
CAMPAIGN 2010 AT 90% OF GOAL
We’re almost there! Donations to Campaign 2010 have reached $1,810,
or 90 percent of the goal. CTOS is endeavoring to raise $2,010 – equaling an
amount donated by its Board of Directors – to cover materials and labor costs
to begin building out the chamber at Chevalier Theatre that will house the
Chevalier Mighty Wurlitzer. Donations may be sent to Chevalier Theatre Organ
Society, P.O. Box 27, Medford, MA 02155-0001. And be watching for a special
announcement on two additional major donations coming soon!
