Admitted to bar at age 22 as youngest practicing attorney in IL. Joined McClory, Lonchar, Nordigian and Clark, whose partners included then-U.S. Rep. Robert McClory, R-Lake Bluff. In 1969, Chervin was appointed a Lake County assistant public defender. He left the public defender's office in January 1972, becoming a sole practioner. He later joined the Wildman, Harrold firm, one of the first Chicago firms to move north into Lake County. In 1992, he unsuccessfully challenged state Sen. Adeline Geo-Karis, R-Zion, in the Republican primary election. Chervin's legal career included business and municipal litigation, and of counsel for banking, newspapers, real estate and probate. His clients included the Waukegan Park District; fire protection districts in Countryside, Long Grove, Lake Villa, Lake Zurich and Libertyville; the city of Waukegan; the Pritzker family; Wausau Insurance Cos.; McDonald's Corp.; and First Midwest Bank. He was active in the Lake County and Illinois Bar associations, and a charter member of the Lake County Trial Lawyers Association. Chervin was born in New York but after high school, when his father died, moved to Chicago with his mother and sister. He was graduated from high school at 16, and was in law school at the University of Illinois by the time he was 19, having done undergraduate work at the university's then-Navy Pier Campus in Chicago. Involved in a number of civic activities, he was a director of the Lake County Chamber of Commerce, a director of Victory Memorial Hospital in Waukegan and a member of the Friends of the Genesee Theatre. Survivors include his widow, Barbara; and three sons, Joseph, Aaron and Adam.
