Yuuzhan Vong Warrior

Hit Points: 30
Defense: 13
Attack: +3
Damage: 10
Cost: 8

General description:
In the novels and in the Roleplaying game, that the miniatures game is based on, the Yuuzhan Yong are fierce warriors who take over most of the galaxy. With troops like this, I can’t see how they did it. The Yuuzhan Vong troops are so crippled, even a droid army is capable of destroying it with minimal losses. In short, they are expensive troops that can’t hit (even clone troopers hit better) and despite the claims of the designers that there are no ranged attacks… the Vong have one. The Thud Bug. Only it’s very short range. The Thud Bug isn’t a grenade, it can’t affect more that one target. So it can only be a very short range attack. An attack that has a 50% failure rate… even against Battle Droids.

Uses:
These figures are door openers and walking cover… nothing else. About the only thing you can take on effectively is a swarm of Ewoks.

Strategies and game play:
Hide. Duck. Don’t make yourself a target. If you see a 10 to 20 point character, run up to it and hit it. You might get lucky. Small closets are your friends. Use them. If your game has an empty target area that is worth points, send these boys running for it. If you’re lucky, it’ll draw some of your opponent’s squad away from your real troops and you might score a point or two in the process.

Combos with other miniatures:
The Subalterns can give you double attack…but there is a good change that you won’t live long enough for it to be of any use. Because you don’t get it when you move and your attack is so poor, expect to miss your target more than 50% of the time. So even with a double attack, you will most likely die before you score a single hit.

Ways to counteract it:
Stay away from them. Shoot them down with non-melee attacks at ranges of seven or more squares. Don’t bother sending Jedi after them… it’s overkill. Even the Thud Bug is pretty lame, so if you have to close with them, they shouldn’t be too much of a problem. If you have less that 20 hit points, just stay back…and shoot them. They let out a tiny plastic scream when they die… or perhaps they are saying ‘Oh, no, not again.’

Strengths/Pros:
For troopers, 30 hit points is top drawer.

Weaknesses/Cons:
They can’t hit a bull in the butt with a base fiddle. You opponents will laugh at your ranged attack (Thud Bug.) Armor that is only 25% effective? Yea that works – ha!

Artwork and aesthetics:
It looks like they are holding a bishops crook and doing the Hustle. What’s with that? When you face them, it looks like you are being attacked by the June Taylor dancers.

Overall rating:
I give this miniature a rating of 2.
