Random little stones along the Oregon shore. Unexpected
yet ordinary treasures. Stacked as a reminder of all
that I have been given and all I long to do and be.

Carved book assemblage with Polaroid emulsion transfer.
2003, (7.5" x 5")
This piece was begun in 2004, before I was injured in a
head-on collision with a drunk driver. I just recently
completed it. It is about discovering strength....both my
own and that which comes from God.

for I am gentle and humble in heart,

Someone once said:
"Live on your personal frontier, on the edge of your creativity."
This book on nature writing has at it's center a piece on Richard E. Byrd.
This explorer went to the edge of the world, the Antarctic.
Carved book assemblage and Polaroid transfer.
2003, (book: 8.5" x 12")
I flew over the Snake River on a trip from Texas to Oregon.
It looked like someone had carved it into the earth. It's beauty seemed spontaneous, free and random....yet I realized
it was the result of great forces of nature and time. It made me think about life with all it's unexpected twists and turns
and the beauty and understanding we can only see when we are not in the midst of it.

............................................................................................................................................................................................
My work is an exploration of personal metaphors represented by simple tokens from nature such as a shadow, stone or branch.
The work often serves as markers or reminders of events, realizations or truths learned from my journey....a type of "ebenezer".
My process involves approaching the subject matter through a variety of media and discovering connections and relationships
through the artmaking process. My goal is also to capture simple beauty and nuances in nature and to bring them into view.
