"Come along people, so wise and so good

Wander the meadow, walk through the wood

Follow the stars, join in our band

Seeking the stones in a far-away land."

    MORNING...

black and silver reflections on the water

silver and gray

a pale orange glow on the surface

the slow unfolding of light

night is reluctant to recede

I walk in half light through a tunnel in the woods

as the pond awakens

like a swimming pool with no lifeguards

none needed

and another day dawns

    AFTERNOON...

open your eyes - what do you see

the shadow of a bird swoops along the ground

dragonflies keep watch

spider webs flap in the breeze like drying laundry

duckweed carpets the pond

a grand gallery of green

sunlight dapples the leaves

and ripples the water

close your eyes - what do you hear

the gatekeepers of nature

what varied sounds the birds have

they each speak a different language

ducks flap and thrash like feathered motorboats

then preen in the stillness between summer and autumn

sailing like silent canoes

a feathered flotilla that barely leaves a wake

then through a break in the trees - a stone circle

a Pagan church with no roof

silent as statues they are

surrounded by cottonwood

their shadows align like soldiers at attention

like knights of the round table

as if each had a name and a duty to fulfill

rescue a maiden or search for the Grail

I sit at the Sarsen stone

cold against my back

awaiting impressions

from another state of mind

everywhere I look

everywhere I walk points to the center

the center of the mind

the point of light

I am the center

there's no turning back

even turning back leads to the center

I sit in the center for healing

prayers from the center of the earth

to the furthest stars

    EVENING...

moonlight on the sundial

the dolmen looks like a Hobbit house

the air cools and the stones are silent

night sounds begin

the snap of a branch

a dog barks in the distance

evening birds are different from the afternoon

the stones turn blue

in the dark before sunset

they speak to us in dreams

God bless this sanctuary

for heart and soul
