About Religions and Religious Harmony
Religious Harmony is not a new religion
or cult. Rather, it is a trend moving through all
religious
paths. It is the realization that all religions
contain truth.
To understand how this is possible it is necessary to understand some things
about religion
and belief:
Religion, for the purposes of this article, is our feeble attempt
to understand the universe around us and our place within it. It is our
attempt to answer that Great Question:
"Why?"
Religions are often referred to as Religious Paths, when speaking
about individuals. That is, an individual follows the religious path s/he
chooses.
Every religion begins with an idea -- with a desire to answer the
Great Question. Each answer is based on personal observation,
made by people belonging to that particular religion.
And each answer is different because we each see and understand things from
a different perspective. That is why there are so many different religions
in the world.
Each religion
contains myths. Myths are special stories which are meant to help us understand
something about the
universe around us and our place within it. Each myth contains a special
truth, seen through the eyes of the person who wrote it.
The problem is that myths come from the same part of the brain as dreams.
Myths are couched in metaphors and dream imagery. Unfortunately, myths are
easy to mistake and are often taken literally. This is the cause of most
religious strife today.
The Goal of Religious Harmony is to help people understand their
myths
in context and to be able to understand the myths
and religions
of others. It is the firm belief that through understanding all people will
eventually realize that each religion contains a piece of truth and that
there is really no need for the religious divisions we see in the world today.
In the sixties and seventies there was a common saying that: "All
religions of the world say basically the same thing." Religious Harmony is poised to
prove that point and to help people learn to co-exist with people who may
believe differently.
Our movement, though unnamed until recently, has had such great names as
James G. Frazer and Joseph Campbell attached to it. These pioneers have done
a great deal of work to help people understand just what it is they have
been fighting about. Our goal is to take this a step further -- to end the
fighting and begin healing the wounds.
