Winds of Change
Welcome to Winds of Change, my campaign in the 7th Sea universe.

The world of Theah is in the midst of many changes. The main Religion of the Vaticine Church has met many challenges, from the creation of the Objectionist sect to the death of the Hierophant, who has yet to be replaced after two years. The people's faith has been shaken and is continuing to be shaken by the Inquisition. Countries have warred openly and covertly, in both the conventional and the financial sense, some like Eisen have been riven by war and are picking up the pieces. Scientific progress, once fully endorsed by the Vaticine Church has come to a grounding halt by the press of the Inquisition, leading scientists and researches to scurry underground in hiding to continue their work or abandon it entirely. Some people like the Vesten, cling to ancient pagan beliefs as the true Way, and some like those in Avalon are returning to the older ways.

People try to make their way in the world. Some by just trying to make a living, some by trying to find a new advantage. Some are shaken by the changes that have upset their lives and are trying to find some meaning in it. Some take advantage of the changes and try to improve their lot in life, their power bases, or just line their pockets.

Where you fit in is up to you. And where you'll find yourself in the time to come depends upon your goals, your skill and fortune. And of course me, the GM.

Unlike most games you may be familiar with, I've few restrictions on where your character comes from, or what he or she is, as long as it fits into the outline of the universe. This is not a game where the players meet up in a bar and adventure together. Each person is a Hero of their own story and will in time meet up with a few or many of the other players and their stories. How that comes together is my job.

Should your character stray towards Villain status, the GM will let you know, so that you can decide whether you wish to continue on your path. Generally, achieving this status would turn your character into an NPC. You will be given a choice whether you wish to start something new or continue as a player character Bad Guy. If you chose to continue you should realize that this will likely get you into trouble with players and NPCs and you might find your life expectancy short unless you're clever. The GM realizes it can be fun to play a bad guy, but be aware that it's likely for bad guys to lose more often than a good guy in a story. If you suspect your character will end up this way, or if you really want to play a villain, let the GM know and we'll see what we can work out. The GM actually likes a well-played villain and will be utterly impartial in player-player conflicts.

7th Sea is a game system well-suited to Story and Adventure. So take a look at your books if you have them, and my overviews and get thinking of how you want to start the game and what challenges you wish to face, and I'll do my best to provide them.

I've included a section on how to create a character for it while players are making characters. It is by no means meant to supplant the 7th Sea books in any way. Instead, it is a way for me to introduce my players to this system, and allow them to play with it, and perhaps run out to buy copies of the rule books for themselves.

I have some basic ground rules that players should make themselves familiar with. They're not too terrible, I don't think, and everything is open to negotiation.

Once things get underway, more interesting information will be found here, or at least I hope so.

Why 7th Sea? I chose 7th Sea because as different as it is from many gaming systems, it is one well suited to a dramatic, swashbuckling game full of intrigue. It has a rich world for me to draw on and the system has an interesting way of resolving conflict. In this game, I will most likely be doing the dicerolling for the players, so all that needs to be done is to work out your basic sheet.

When creating a character, keep in mind books and movies like Princess Bride, 3 Musketeers (Non-Disney!), Captain Blood, etc.

I've given a brief history of Theah, which you should read to better understand the world and current events. However a more inclusive timeline can be found at the official site. It's also a good place to go to get character sheets for your use, and other tips and tidbits you might find helpful.
