Clapper Rail Personal notes on the natural world from an observer in the SF Bay Area.

Seasonal Notes

The winter routine is settling in. The ducks are on the Bay, the shorebirds on the mudflats, and sparrows are everywhere.

This breeding season produced unusually good crops of California Towhees and Black Phoebes. I can't go anywhere without seeing them.

A few butterflies and dragonflies remain, but numbers will be few until next spring.

The rains are just beginning, so the trails are too muddy yet. Get out and enjoy it while your shoes are still clean!
