the name of God Amen. The Three and Twentieth Daye
of Maye Anno Dmi 1638. I Richard Slocombe of the
parish of St. Decumans’ in the county of Somersett yeoman being weake in body but thanks be to God of good and perfect
memorie doe make my last will & Testament in manner & forme following Impremis I doe bequeath my Soule
to Almightie God And my body to a christian burrall. Item
I doe give to my wife Dorothie All the corne that is growne on her owne ground And alsoe making her brasse & pewter as
good as it was when I marryed which shee brought unto me.
Alsoe the litle silver spoons which I doe usually eate meate with all. Item I doe give to my sonne Thomas Slocombe my Breweing Furnace my Sider presse, the Amory, which is in
the Kitchinge in which hee doe now dwell and my bedde which are in the chamber which he doth now lye in with the second best
Bedstead in the same chamber and my long Table board & the Frame & twoe formes belonging thereto standinge in my parlor
And my cubbord & bedstead which stande in the said parlor
Item I give to my Sonne Andrew Slocombe two of my greatest silver spoones my best brasse pan which I doe usually haule
milke in for creame Item I doe give to my daughter
one of the same sorte of my brasse milk panns namely to Joane Bickham Item I doe give to my daughter Mary Slocomb Fourty shillings yearely during the lives of my Sonne Andrew
& my sone Hugh Slocomb if shee doe soe long live To bee payd her out of the Three pieces of ground called Tux with the
plott of ground by the waterside Alsoe I doe give
her my silver boule I doe give to my Sonne Hugh Slocomb
the said Three pieces of ground with the plott (except the said fourtie shillings which my daughter Marie must have yearely
out of the same) And hee payeing the Lande Rent which is Six shillings eight pence per Annum Item I doe give to my sonne Hughe Slocombe Three silver spoones out of my second
best half dozen And alsoe my Bed & Bedstead with such clothes & furniture so belongeth thereto being in the best laste
with the litle board which standed in the same chamber And alsoe twoe platters twoe poddingers & twoe sarveers Item I give to my sonne Humfry Slocombe all the Kings Land which I doe hold within
the parish of St Decumans (except the litle [pannecke ?] which lyeth by the routt as wee goe to Watchett payinge unto ye Soverigne
Lord the King the rent due unto him Alsoe I give
him three silver spoones being the other three of second best halfe dozen Also the Bed with the bolster & coverlett & all other furniture to the same wherein I doe usually
lye on and with the best Bedsted being in the Kitchinge chamber which Thomas Slocombe lives in and the little square board
in the parlor. Item I doe give to my sonne John Slocombe
if hee happen to live after the death of my sonne Thomas Slocombe & Thomazine his now wife the house & Tenement in
which I doe now dwell duringe the naturall lives of my sonnes John & Humphry And if hee shall live to enioy it My will is that he shall give unto George Slocombe the sonne of Thomas Slocombe five
pounds if hee be then living And to Richard Slocombe
the sonne of Thomas Slocombe Twentie shillings and Thomas Slocombe the sonne of Thomas Slocombe Twenty shillings if they be
then living And Joane Slocombe & Jane Slocombe
the daughters of my sonne Thomas Slocombe Twenty shillings apeece if they be then living to be payd them within one whole
yere next after hee shall possesse & enioy it. My
sonne Andrew Slocombe hath now three sonnes & three daughters whosoever of them are living when my sone John doe enioy
the said Tenement That he shall give to every of them then living Five shillings apeece to be payd in like manner And alsoe he shall pay unto Aldread Bickhams children & Joanes his now wife being
then living Twelve pence apeece to be payd in one yeare as aforesaid Provided that if it happen my sonne John doe dye &
shall leave the said Tenement to another that whosoever shall enioy it shalbe unsevereable for the Legacyes before given out
of the same Moreover I doe give to my sonne John
Slocombe the litle [pannecke ?] called by the name of Septane meadowe lyeing for one Rod of ground being more or lesse paying
six pence the yeares rent to ye Soverraign Lord the King
Alsoe I doe give him all my shopp tooles namely sheeres & handells & _______ & all other tooles there belonging
to his trade And alsoe my Parke standinge in ye close
called the Park Close. Item I doe give towarde the
maintenance of the parish church of St Decumans Twelve pence
All the residue of my goods moveable & immoveable my debts & Legacies payd & funerall expenses orderly
performed I doe give to my sonne John Slocomb & my daughter Marie Slocombe whome I doe make joint Executors of this last
will and Testament In wittness hereof I have sett
my hand and seale the day & yeare first within written
Memorand I doe appoint and ordaine my trusty
& welbeloved frende Silvester Lewes and Aldred Bickham to be my overseers Richard Slocombe Testeme Johanne
Strangg Signum Joanne Luckus Memorand Debtes due to mee Gabirell V___lake of Chimley in the county of Devon oweth

Cleeve oweth mee upon specialty Twenty poundes and his hand to my books for fortie pounde & somewhat more. My sonne Thomas Slocombe oweth mee for the rent of Silvester Bickhams meadow Twentie
pounds When my sonne Thomas Slocombe bought my plow
hee borrowed of mee and promisinge to make it to mee as good as hee found it from mee Namely One Wayne a paire of Whales One
Butt and a paire of wheeles Twoe [sewells ?] twoe
sheeres twoe coulters belonginge thereto Three yokes & knives belonging unto them Three Iron chaynes & one paire of
dray & _____ Coward Kutcham late of Bristol oweth
mee upon specialty Twenty pounds.
