The F/A-18 AAW (for Active Aeroelastic Wing) was re-designated the X-53 in December 2006 to give the program a higher recognition factor. A limited run of this 1/40 scale model was made in 2004.  Unique characteristics of the AAW variant include the large dorsal fuselage hump and distinctive markings. Cam Martin helped me locate this example.
