On May 12, 1950, veteran Los Angeles Times aerospace reporter Marvin Miles rode along in a B-29 as it launched the original Bell X-1 on its last flight. Chuck Yeager flew the X-1 that day. When Marvin landed, he was met by Larry Bell and presented with this model. It came to me through the extraordinary generosity of Melanie Miles Meyer, his daughter.
