I’m no Jimi Hendrix and never will
be. We do have one thing in common though. We both play a right handed guitar left handed. I don’t know why Jimi would
do such a thing, but I will share w/ you the reason I play the ax upside down.
I guess I was around ten years old when
my brother (Cameron) came home from summer vacation with an acoustic guitar, and told me in no uncertain terms that he would
pound me into the ground if he caught me playing it. Well naturally that meant I had to wait until he was out of the house
and, play in the bedroom with the door locked to avoid certain death. I had a few years of piano under my belt so the guitar
came to me pretty quickly. The only problem was I learned to play it before I learned that I was holding it upside down.
I just hope my brother never finds this
page. He knows where I live, and may well give me the pounding he promised.
On the other hand, had it not been for
his bullying me into learning to play with no guidance I may have learned to string the guitar properly and become Americas’
left handed guitar virtuoso bringing untold wealth to me and my family. So maybe it is I who should look up Cameron!
