The Discover Card (owned by Sears) decided to yank permission for stores to accept it if they sold adult materials (such as personal lubricant, sex toys, and X-rated video tapes). It seems something of an odd action, given how few stores accept Discover anyway; you would think they would be eager to have more money flowing in. Similarly concerned about their image -- yeah, whatever -- Levi-Strauss pulled its jeans from several leather stores around the country. Here and we thought the San Francisco-based company appreciated the fact that the Castro Clone look depends on their jeans (and thus sells a lot of them, too). Cartoon and text ©1998 Jim Drew. |
