This is a 1955 Series One 86 Hardtop.  It was originally registered in California in 1955.  It is remarkably original except for the horrendous house paint on it - tan on bottom, baby blue top.  The panels are dinged and there is rust on the bulkhead.

A lead check shows the paint is safe to strip. With only days before the winter rains are to start, after a power wash and sanding, the S1 is transformed to Rustoleum gloss white top and hunter green body so it can be parked without too many neighbour complaints.  I couldn't find appropriate 6.50x16s so I put on Dunlop Radial Rover RT 215/85R16s with radial tubes.  The tyres have since been "lent" to the S2A and the S1 for now has Swamper 29/8.50-15 that appears to be approximately the same diameter as original.

The ignition wiring has been changed to use commonly found replaceable components.  The spark plug wires are cut from an Accel V-8 set.  The distributor cap is from a Mini.  Note that the cap is rotated 90 degrees.  (A Lucas cap for the LR is $35 versus <$10 for the Mini!  The original spark plug suppressors, Lucas coil, Lucas distributor cap are stored.  I have obtained new replacements, but based on the costs, am waiting until the vehicle is restored to use them.)  A new exhaust system has been installed.  The first part that connects to the engine is unique to the S1 but the other two pieces are generic to S2.  S2 brake pads have also been installed.
