Federal Tax Refund Applications Available
for Clean Energy Manufacturers
Investments in manufacturing
facilities that support clean energy generation and conservation may qualify
for a direct payment instead of waiting for a tax credit refund from the
federal government thanks to the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act.
Department of Environmental Protection Secretary John Hanger today encouraged
The U.S. Department of Energy and
the Department of Treasury announced the plan to award $2.3 billion in Recovery
Act funding in the form of direct payments to qualifying manufacturers that
produce equipment for eligible clean energy products such as wind, solar,
geothermal, fuel cell, and energy conservation technologies.
"As more companies and
individuals seek to become more energy efficient, there is a greater demand for
energy-related products," said Hanger. "For example, before new solar
arrays and wind turbines can be installed, they must first be manufactured.
This direct payment tax credit is a way to place money in the hands of
manufacturers whose products help others produce and conserve energy, and be
more efficient with the energy they do consume."
Preliminary applications are due
directly to the Department of Energy by Sept. 16. The Internal Revenue Service
will certify or reject applications and notify certified projects with the
approved amount of the tax credit by Jan. 15, 2010. Credits will be allocated
until the funding is exhausted.
