energy bill goes before House
13 July 2009-- A $33
billion energy and water spending bill goes before the House this week.
The bill funds the Energy
Department and several other government agencies. It is expected to be on the
House floor Wednesday with about 100 submitted amendments, including one to
reverse the decision to abandon the
The bill provides $26.9
billion for DOE, which is $86 million above current spending, according to the
House Appropriations Committee.
Renewable energy and
efficiency programs get $2.25 billion, while nuclear energy research gets $812
million.
The $618 million budget
for fossil energy research is geared toward research and development for carbon
capture and storage projects and alternative fuel technologies.
