Jeff Crouch - 2007

He glimpses the cord that imperceptibly joins
the minerals to the stars and beyond, where consciousness begins;
he sees the precise tension by which everything exists.
And he fears, upon waking, if he disturbs the slightest
spider web, or lifts a beetle from its leaf, the world will disappear.

This portion of Dream Meditation first appeared in a poem
titled The Beach (White Leaf Review, Spring 2006).
