this recipe came from some promotional recipe booklet from some magazine, possibly bh&g (looks like their typestyles). it's hella good. if you want it, write me and I'll post it. (I don't know if anyone ever looks at these.) the cake is rich and dark and has chocolate chips in it just for good measure. the top/bottom is everything good: butter, brown sugar, coconut and pecans. after you flip it over, you top the hot cake with yet more chocolate chips and let them melt in. yikes. and yet, it's only one layer tall (half the chocolate, coconut and pecans that were in the ones my mom used to make) and the topping bakes in the same pan, unlike the real german chocolate cake, and much easier and less hazardous than the one you have to stick under the broiler.
