Cavan Kerry
Blue Terriers, Est. 1979
Cavan Kerry Blue Terriers was established by my mother, Maureen Lorentz in
1979 with the birth of the first litter to carry the Cavan prefix. Her dream
of owning a Kerry Blue began decades ago when she first read about and saw a
picture of a Kerry. The kennel name is taken from the county in Ireland
where my mother’s ancestors came.
In 1977 we got our first Kerry, a male
from Claire Martin of Adair Gardens. Casey did not turn out to be a show
dog. Our first champion in 1979, owner handled, was Ch Adair Gardens
Macushla, known as Nellie. Nell finished in spite of her grooming, but we
were bitten by the Kerry Blue bug. Since that time Cavan Kerry’s has had
20 conformation champions and 1 obedience high in trial title.
The dogs have
always been a family hobby, raising puppies and attending dog shows. When my mother’s health began
to fail I, Gigi
Lorentz-Reiling, have taken an active role to keep the Cavan name alive. I
have two Kerries in my house, Shannon and Tara, as seen on our home page. My
parents have three, Andy, Phoebe, and Myles. My sister now has one in her
house.
