It was just
an ordinary afternoon of fishing in the Spring of 2005.
Matthew and I were shooting jigs under some boat docks,
and enjoying the time on the water. As I was working my
jig back to the boat I felt a good, solid thump on the
line. I set the hook, and the fight was on. My first thought
was "crappie", but the fish just felt too strong...unless
it was a pending state record. It was not fighting like
a catfish, and had not become airborn like a bass. As
I got the fish closer to the boat, an orange flash appeared
just below the surface. Matthew and I...in almost complete
unison, said "what in the world is that". A
few seconds later, this flourescent beauty showed herself
to us. She was promptly released, but not without a photo.

In February
2005, I had volunteered some time to help the Grand Prairie
Parks and Recreation department with their Kid Fish day.
It was a great cause, and a chance to help some of the
area youth learn more about fishing. I had volunteered
to put on a fish cleaning demonstration at the end of
the event, so I figured I better go catch some fish before
I get there. I fished Cedar Creek Lake the day before,
and caught a bunch of crappie/sandbass/hybrids to use
in the demonstration. The Kid Fish event released over
1,000 trout into a city lake, and the kids were catching
a lot of them. As time went by, we thought it would be
great to have one of the kids carry around a 5 lb. hybrid
to see what kind of response he got. So, we got the fish
off the ice and handed it to the boy. As he carried it
around, he was asked 100 times "Hey, did you catch
that thing in here?". That boy had the biggest grin
on his face, and you couldn't wipe it off. It really brought
my thoughts back to the simple things in life, and we
had to shoot a photo of him.

More to
come very soon...
