C.A.S.T - Lake Eufaula,
OK 08/05
Season #2 of
our C.A.S.T tournament circuit begins with a qualifier
on Lake Eufaula, Oklahoma.
I had never fished
Eufaula, but Wes grew up in Southern Oklahoma, and had
some connections on where to start looking on this massive
piece of water...over 90,000 acres of it.
Since Eufaula
was only about 3.5 hours from us, we decided to head up
the weekend before the tournament to see what we could
find.
We spent the
entire day in one cove, and never fished it all...the
lake is that large. We found numerous brushpiles, and
spent a few minutes fishing, and catching crappie. Our
fish were caught with various B'n'M
rods, and
Jigum Jigs. By the end of the day, we had marked over
a dozen brushpiles, caught a lot of fish, but not any
really big "tournament" fish.
The day of the
tournament proved to give us the same results as our pre-fishing.
Plenty of fish on each brushpile, but no large fish. We
did fish some of the standing timber in the area, but
the same size fish were on the timber.
We took our tournament
limit to the scales feeling that we had enought to continue
our unbeaten streak of top-10 finishes, but not feeling
very good about our chances to walk away with a check.
Our fish did
land us in 8th place overall, and a return trip to Lake
Oologah, OK for the CAST Classic, to be held in June '06.
