Will of George Courtney

In the name of God amen I George Courtney of the County of Greene and State of Tennessee being weak of body but of sound mind and memory and knowing the uncertainty of this Life do make and ordain this my Last will and Testament in manner and form following.  To wit first all of my just debts to be paid and a decent burial.  Secondly I give and bequeath unto my wife Elizabeth Courtney all of my property and estate during her natural Life or widow hood and after her death my Property all to be eually divided amongst all my children and my grand son George W. Courtney namely docia Eliza John Sarah Stephen and Marshall and Mourning and the above named grand son a son of James Courtney thereby if my grand son George W. Courtney should die before he arrives at the age of Twenty one years all the property bequeathed to him by this will shall go to the ballance of my children and be equally divided between them and there heirs.  fourthly before the above division of property takes place my son Marshall Courtney is to have one good cow and calf one good bed and skid and furniture and also farming utensils equal to what the ballance of the Heirs has Received and also by other household and kitchen furniture enough to make him equal with the Rest of my heirs.  fifthly I nominate and appoint John Courtney and Stephen Courtney and Marshall Courtney as Executors to this my Last will and Testament.

Revoking all other will or wills by me made and Interlined before signed this third day of April in the year of Lord one thousand eight Hundred and forty-nine.
