3.  WILLIAM HOWARD3 MEEK (JOHN2, JOHN1) was born November 27, 1818 in Knox County, TN1, and died July 27, 1866/76/86? in Grainger Co., TN.  He married ALICE ELIZABETH TAYLOR1 November 7, 1843 in Grainger County, TN, daughter of HUGHES TAYLOR and FRANCES COX.  She was born December 9, 18231, and died August 3, 1915 in Grainger Co., TN.

More About WILLIAM HOWARD MEEK:    

    On a note from the War Department, included in Alice's Widow's Pension Application #1527:  "The records show that one William H. Meek, private, Company I, 59th Tennessee Infantry, C.S.A. (also designated Mounted Infantry), was enlisted August 26, 1863.  On the company muster roll for January and February, 1865 (last on file), he is reported present.  The records further show that one William H. Meek, private, Company I, 59th Tennessee Cavalry, C.S.A., was captured in Carter County, Tennessee, March 31, 1865, and that he subscribed to the oath of allegiance at Camp Chase, Ohio, June 10, 1865, and was released the same day."

    In the Widow's Pension Application, her witnesses state that he was captured in Elizabethton, Tennessee, while "he was on scout" by the authority of General Vaughan.

5.  ROBERT JOSEPH4 MEEK (WILLIAM HOWARD3, JOHN2, JOHN1) was born April 30, 18462, and died May 4, 1891.  He married LUCY MALISSIA MOORE Dec. 6, 18703 in Hawkins County, TN, daughter of GEORGE MOORE and MARGIANNA COCKE.  She was born February 24, 1849 in Hawkins Co., Tennessee, and died August 5, 19214.

Notes for LUCY MALISSIA MOORE:

    Lucy M. Meek is buried in the Stubblefield (aka Dean) cemetery in Hawkins County, TN.  It's on a hill off Stubblefield Lane.  She and her son's graves lie just inside the entrance to the cemetery.  

    In 1910, she filed for Widow's Indigent Pension, # 3337, which was accepted.
