DANIEL1
ROGAN
was born August 25, 1771 in Ireland, and died November 28, 1842 in Kingsport,
Sullivan Co., TN. He married CATHERINE
CRAWFORD
March 1, 1797 in Frederick Co., MD. She
was born May 15, 1779 in Frederick Co., MD, and died October 26, 1865 in
Kingsport, Sullivan Co., TN.
Notes for DANIEL
ROGAN:
Sailed from Dublin, Ireland June 13, 1791.
Established himself in
the Mercantile business & erected large warehouses for storing the salt
hauled there in wagons & from which houses it was loaded into the boats when
suitable tides came. He continued
to sell goods here for as long as he lived.
He was not rich, but he
had plenty.
He built a large &
commodious dwelling, with two story covered porches, on an eminence overlooking
the Holston River & beyond it the beautiful Bays Mountains, with a large
lawn sloping towards the river and covered with luxuriant bluegrass.
The storehouse was some distance from the residence, & down a grade
from there. Between the dwelling
& the storehouse, he made a stepped plank walk making a comfortable passway
to & fro.
Their beautiful home
was burned, and the E.C. Railroad for awhile under construction, never yet
built, cut through their yard & garden.
