b. about 1740 (birthdate based on age of wife)
m. before 1763
d. after 1771
Francisco Griego was one of the original petitioners in the grant of 1763. [NMLG Records, SG Case 150, NMSRC Reel 27]
He married MARIA JOSEPHA SALAZAR (or VALENCIA) before 1763 and did live in Carnue as evidenced by one of his children's baptismal record.
Francisco Griego survived the October 1770 Apache attack that caused the settlers to flee to Albuquerque, along with his children, except one daughter who died in Carnue, and his wife who died a few days before the grant was dissolved and the plaza was destroyed.
In April of 1771 he signed the petition asking for the dissolution of the grant. [NMLG Records, SG Case 150, NMSRC Reel 27]
On May 16, 1771 Josepha Salazar died at the age of 31 years (DOB 1740), wife of Francisco Griego. [LDS 016645 Albuq. Deaths]
After the dissolution of the grant, Francisco may have moved his family to Abiquiu as two of his children married there. The parents of Francisco Griego and his wife are unknown, although it is possible that his ancestors are from northern New Mexico.
On May 27, 1745 Francisco Secundo Griego, son of unknown parents, was baptized by Baltasar Griego and Manuela Gurule. [AB p. 274] Was this their adopted child? Could this be the Francisco Griego of Carnue?
FRANCISCO GRIEGO and MARIA JOSEPHA SALAZAR were the parents of the following children:
