I Still Remember Love
By Carlos Cardona
for Dedra Garfein
After birth, Love becomes the next event,
Weaned from which to pain-of-loss,
A "somewhat" life remains our only constant,
Will God also last forever?
And then came evil hate for Love,
Of a love always quite withheld
But could have weathered Lear's Storm,
The one Iago sent to make me jealous.
So, dearest Desdemon, Cordelia, Rosalind,
As the yearly tear-down images
Rise in continuing regret and failure,
As the "love plays" all spring
Their steel-trap verse on this true Aquarian,
Convinced I've become of the hordes
Of women more wonderful than you?
But what convinced me I don't remember,
I still remember, Love, very well.
