The cover gives us an interesting glimpse of how times have changed. For one thing, AOL keywords are no longer the prominent promotional medium they once were. Flying now has its own website, as does every other entity on the planet, but in 1998, many advertisers had yet to present themselves on the Internet.
What's more striking, if not exactly obvious, is what's in the background of the cover photo - and what's not there. I must confess that I didn't even notice it until I scanned the magazine for this feature. For some reason, the prominent antenna mast on WTC 1 has been erased from the photo. Maybe they did it to more neatly frame the Falcon, but I wish that they had left it in. Little could anyone have foreseen the editing job that would be done three years later. We'll never see that view again, and we're all the poorer for it.
